Scientific advances and its reflection in the reimbursement system may differ substantially, usually between 5-20 years, especially in rapidly moving fields like neurology. 

NEUROLOGY MOVES tries to offer scientifically proven or promising therapeutic options, which will be compensated according to German guidelines of medical reimbursement (GOÄ).

BOTOX-BOTULINUM TOXIN (not yet approved indications, cosmetics)

Therapies with botulinum toxin (for instance Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®)   are approved for dystonia, spastiticity, chronic migraine in the European Union.
Not yet approved, but efficacious indications embrace sialorrhea  (increased drooling), hyperhidrosis (increased sweating), the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles, bruxism, and muscle spasms. Anecdotal evidence suggests that depressive disorders may be improved by botulinum toxin, although these studies certainly await verification.

NEUROLOGY-MOVES may support you concerning insurance issues. However and independently, we offer these treatment options following individual reimbursement.

DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION (not yet approved indications)

Deep brain stimulation has revolutionized therepeutic options in movement disorders. Additionally, its potential benefits are presently investigated in depression, alcohol abuse, obsessive compulsive disorders, cluster headache, and infantile cerebral palsy. These therapeutic avenues are experimental and normally require participation in clinical trials, enabling scientific evaluation. We look forward to inform about these new possibilities. 


In uncertain cases of suspected memory deficits   we provide comprehensive memory testing via validated international batteries (for instance CERAD), which will be reimbursed individually (according to German guidelines, GOÄ).

HYPERHIDROSIS (increased sweating)

Increased sweating may severely impair quality of life, for instance social competence. Therapy with botulinum toxin has been shown to be highly efficacious with little adverse events. In the European Union the reimbursement for this clearly efficient therapeutic option has not been finalized yet. We will try to provide support in potential insurance issue. Independently and more importantly, we offer this treatment on an individual basis .  


Neurofeedback refers to electrophysiological learning via EEG. The EEG permits to
assess vigilance, sleep, alertness, and concentration, which is reflected by
differential EEG-activities, mainly frequencies. Starting point is the assessment of a
representative, nomal individual EEG. Subsequentely behaviour is shaped by
enforcing certain brain rhythms, which scientifically has been denoted as positive
conditioning or re-enforcement. Specifically, electrophysiocal EEG-surrogate
markers are enhanced via computer animations on a TV screen.
Historically, neurofeedback has been shown in mice to suppress even epileptic
NEUROLOGY MOVES offers (and also scientifically accompanies) this technique in
patients with hyperactivity (ADHS), tics, migraine, autism, depression and anxiety
The procedure is technically demanding, involving educated personel and off-time
analysis, thus requiring private reimbursement

The investigation of nerve lesions via ultrasound may permit to more specifically locate lesions (plexus- and compression syndromes). NEUROLOGY MOVES offers these investigations in cooperation with Dr. Böhm/Dr. Raffauf in Berlin and in cooperation with the Universities of Magdeburg (Prof. Vielhaber) and Erlangen (Dr. Axel Schramm).


Knowledge on neurological risks in pregnancy concerning drugs and diseases is still sparse. Independently we will try to advise in these issues, especially treatment in epilepsy, Botulinum toxin, Dystonia, Parkinson´disease, multiple sclerosis and other indications.


Applications of botulinum toxin are efficient in excessive drooling  (Sialorrhea). NEUROLOGY MOVES showed in 2003 that injections of botulinum toxin in saliva-producing glands significantly reduces drooling in Parkinsons´s disease or other neruological disorders.  (PubMed Link) We will be glad to provide medical advise.


Sonography or ultrasound are increasingly employed to potentially  increase the therepeutic efficacy of botulinum toxin in spasticity or dystonia. Scientifically it is still debated, if this diagnostic advance translates into therapeutic advangates. NEUROLOGY MOVES participates in these endavours to improve therapy with botulinum toxin in dystonia & spasticity and nerve compression syndromes.


Tremor or colloquially "shaking" can be differentiated by electrophysiological investigations (Multi-channel-EMG). These investigations are important, since they allow to differentiate between normal and pathological tremor. We will be glad to provide advise on these diagnostic options with therapeutic consequences.
